Idera Offers Insight Into SharePoint Access
By David Rubinstein
January 27, 2009 — Data management software provider Idera announced today the release of a reporting tool add-on to SharePoint that gives administrators and executives insight into which users have access to a company’s SharePoint server. The announcement was made at BZ Media’s SharePoint Technology Conference, being held through Thursday in Burlingame, Calif.
The tool, called Security Reporter, is a complement to Idera’s existing Permissions Analyzer, which provides information about why someone has access to a server based on a person’s job or project responsibilities, explained Julia Hall, Idera’s director of SharePoint products.
Security Reporter and Permissions Analyzer make up the security part of Idera’s Point admin tool set, which also gives metrics regarding performance monitoring and site and server management, Hall explained. The tool set sells for US$795.
Security Reporter and Permissions Analyzer do not enable changes to access. Instead, they work with the SharePoint administration console, Hall said. She noted that Idera is working on an enterprise-level tool set that will include such security features as authentication and access control, but she could not give a timeframe for its completion.
