Novell Bundle Addresses Identity Management
By
P. J. Connolly
September 4, 2008 —
Novell released yesterday a bundle of access control products called the Novell Compliance Management Platform, pulling together its cross-platform software for identity provisioning, monitoring, and access management, and adding other resources such as guides to best practices and predefined policies.
The new compliance package is made up of the company’s Identity Manager 3.6 for password management, user provisioning and rules-based access control; real-time monitoring provided by Sentinel 6.1; and, for Web access management, Access Manager 3.0. The package also comes with an identity tracking pack for Sentinel that includes correlation rules and canned reports, with related content that the company says is meant to add identity tracking features to confirm compliance with IT security policies.
The Compliance Management Platform comes with tools for Identity Manager that have analysis features meant to work with a variety of data sources, and policy design software that, according to Novell, allows business-focused policies to be drafted and deployed without the need for coding or scripting.
The final piece of the compliance tool set is a resource kit for Identity Manager, which the company says is the result of its work with thousands of customers. The kit offers documentation, canned provisioning policies and other material that Novell included with the intent of reducing time to deployment and implementation costs.
As well as making day-to-day operations more efficient, Novell says its compliance management tools are meant to make audits less painful, by reducing the amount of work that has to be repeated from one review to the next.
