KACE Brings Systems Management to the iPhone
By
Jeff Feinman
January 2, 2009 —
KACE, a provider of systems management appliances, has created what it calls the industry’s first systems management product for the Apple iPhone.
The KBOX iPhone Management Module, released in late December, lets IT organizations centrally deploy and manage iPhone investments, and it removes the need for manual setup and manually tracking managed devices, according to the company.
“We are seeing tremendous growth of iPhone usage in the workforce, and once again KACE is the first to extend innovative technology to fully embrace the latest in mobile technology,” said Marty Kacin, CTO and co-founder of KACE. “As the iPhone continues to be the go-to smart phone for businesses, it's important for IT organizations to be able to efficiently deploy, track and manage the mobile devices, just as they would any other critical computing platform.”
Kacin said that the KBOX iPhone Management Module has asset discovery and reporting capabilities. The product reports on such things as carrier contract details, installed software and asset growth. An iPhone profile deployment feature allows easy setup and configuration, the company said. The product has simple policy management of multiple configuration profiles, which the company said can reduce iPhone management costs.
Additional features in the KBOX iPhone Management Module include self service portals for downloads from the KBOX user portal, and a custom reporting wizard that reports on iPhone assets and adoption trends.
